Freeman's Auction House

As the designer for Freeman’s Auction, America’s oldest auction house, I designed all marketing materials for the company’s 15+ departments. These projects included: the design of print and digital ads, auction catalogues, invites, brochures, exhibition signage, and corporate stationery. Each project was managed from conception to completion, with responsibilities including color proofing auction catalogues, directing photo shoots for advertising, managing the marketing production schedule, and collaborating with printers to determine cost estimates and production timelines.

The Stanley Bard Collection: A Life at The Chelsea Catalogue

I designed The Stanley Bard Collection: A Life at The Chelsea, a nearly 200-page catalogue chronicling the life and legacy of Stanley Bard, the legendary manager of New York’s iconic Hotel Chelsea. The project required translating Bard’s storied history and the spirit of the hotel into a tactile, visual experience that celebrated both the man and his collection.

My design approach emphasized layered storytelling through photography, detailed object histories, and biographical content. I incorporated foldouts to create dramatic visual moments and used vellum inserts to introduce texture and depth, enhancing the reader’s engagement. Collaborating closely with printers, I oversaw color proofing and production to ensure every page maintained accuracy. The resulting catalogue functions as both an auction reference and a lasting memento, reflecting the richness and creativity of Bard’s life and Hotel Chelsea’s legacy.

Consignment Mailer Example

I designed a series of mailers and brochures targeting potential clients to consign their estates. Each piece highlighted successful sales of art and antiques from the past year, showcasing Freeman’s expertise and the value of consigning with the auction house.

Auction Catalogues

During my time at Freeman’s, I was responsible for designing, developing, and laying out each estate sale auction catalogue. This involved close collaboration with cataloguers and various departments to ensure editorial consistency, accuracy, and a cohesive visual identity across all pages. My work included structuring content for readability, establishing hierarchy through typography and spacing, and integrating images and descriptive text in a way that balanced information and visual appeal. I also oversaw production details such as color proofing, foldouts, and page sequencing, ensuring each catalogue not only functioned as a reference for bidders but also as a polished, collectible document.
